Air University (AU) (Urdu: ائیریونیورسٹی) is a Federally Chartered University, its Headquarter is in located in Islamabad, Pakistan. Its campus is located in the foot of the Margalla hills. The university is co-educational, established to promote higher scientific education in Pakistan and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees leading to PhD in the fields of engineering and management sciences. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories which are among the best in the country. The University is a degree awarding autonomous institution and its graduates are highly valued in the job market which is an evidence of the credibility of its degree as it is affiliated with Pakistan Engineering Council and Higher Education Commission Pakistan.[4][5] The University is currently ranked among the Top 510 Universities of the World and is moving up the order year by year..[6]

Campus

Islamabad campus

The Air University Head Quarter is located in the PAF Complex, Sector E-9, Islamabad. The campus is equipped with laboratories, Auditorium, Central Library, Cafeteria, Free Heath Care Facilities and Sports Equipment. Following departments are currently active in the Islamabad Campus:

Multan campus

Air University has established its new campus at 82-Abdali Road, Multan Cantt. which has been launched in Spring 2011. The Multan Campus is presently offering only BBA, and BSCS and MBA (1.5 Years and 3.5 Years Program).

Academics

Profile

AU is the model university established by the Pakistan Air Force. The student body consists of over 3,500 students. In 2010, nearly 10,000 candidates applied for the undergraduate programs at AU. AU has over 120 full time employed faculty staff and many professors and lecturers are a part of visiting faculty at AU. In addition to this, eminent professors from reputed universities around the world visit AU as a regular feature under collaborative arrangements. Majority of the faculty members are PhD and M.Phil professors from reputed universities around the world. A few sponsored students and faculty members, doing their PhD from abroad, are scheduled to return to AU from 2008 onwards which will further increase the number of PhD professors in the faculty.

Admission

Admission to all engineering undergraduate courses in Air University is based primarily on an interview along with a written enterance test. But candidates who have cleared SAT I and SAT II within the last one year are exempted from University admission test, provided their scores in those tests are as under:

At least 1150 in SAT I, and
At least 600 each in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in SAT II.
At least 1100 in SAT I
Candidates scoring 50% marks or above in GRE equivalent entry test will be exempted from Air University Admission Test for MBA/ MS Management Science.

The basic requirement for admission in undergraduate program is FSc Pre-Engineering from any Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education or any equivalent qualification (like Overseas High School Certificate, British Advanced Level of Certificate, International Baccalaureate etc.). Minimum 65% marks is required in Matriculation and 60% in FSc/Equivalent Exam. Students can also apply on the basis of their SAT scores, however admissions on the basis of SAT have reserved seats.

Research

Students are provided with the opportunity to augment their learning through practical work in laboratories.[7] The labs in Air University are well equipped to undertake high-end research in the fields of Aerospace, Avionics, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, and Telecommunications Engineering. Student Life

Air University offers many opportunities on & off the campus for students to participate in technical and professional societies. Study trips to different industries and organizations are arranged, guest speakers from reputable institutes and industries are invited and seminars and workshops are held regularly. Apart from it, students have also developed their own societies and clubs.

Sports Facilities

All the sports facilities are available on the Air University Campus. Separate courts for indoor games and activities such as table tennis, badminton, squash etc. are available. Basketball and Volleyball courts, Hockey, Football and cricket fields are also present in the campus.

Hostel Facility

Currently Air University has no hostel of its own. The students from other cities have to manage their own accommodation. But a Hostel Facility is under consideration and a separate Hostel will be built for boys and girls.
